Teachers Notes

This section provides teachers with a summary of each student activity and a teaching focus guide. It's important that teachers adapt and modify the activities to suit their their students' learning needs.

We suggest that teachers start by introducing the Whare uku unit in the Hei Timatanga section. Once students have been introduced to the unit, they can be divided groups and work on any of the four topics. Teachers may wish to select specific activities for each topic or across a range of topics for groups to work through. It is important that teachers are familiar with all the activities in order to guide their students to appropriate activities and be able to effectively manage the class. Note that the Harakeke and Soil experiments will require greater preparation and teacher support .
