Kaiako

This resource encourages students to design, research, experiment and explore whare uku. It has been developed primarily for Māori language immersion students in years 7 & 8, however it can be adapted for other year groups. The resource is completely in te reo Māori and has been created so that teachers need not be reliant on creating their own extra Māori resources. Reference to additional English resources has been provided if teachers wish to incorporate these into the unit.
The key objectives of this resource are:

to share the work of Kaupapa Māori researchers with teachers, students and whānau
to excite teachers and students about research
to encourage students and teachers to conduct Kaupapa Māori research that may be of benefit to their whānau and communities
to enable students to carry out scientifc investigation with everyday equipment
to utilise ICT (information and communication technologies) in research
to enable research in te reo Māori
to introduce whare uku as a sustainable and viable housing option
